The Bunny Situation Dedicated to Echo of Dalriada Marice Igrališce Ohm Square Puding Pani Elvisovej Sunscreen Trio Exklusiv
The Viennese electronics duo The Bunny Situation is composed of Florian Prix and Ellen Muhr. In October 2004, they launched their very successful single ‘Hound’featuring I-Wolf (sofa surfer) Rmx. This was followed by their outstanding debut ‘Life Ain’t Funny’ (Universal), which met with great interest on the part of the media. Often compared to bands like Moloko, Goldfrapp, Lamb or Morcheeba, The Bunny Situation have developed their very own style they define as ‘scrapyard blues’. ‘If our music had a steel structure , it’d be that of a junkyard’, Prix says. ‘Engines melted down to make pots and pans. Screws, nuts and bolts, with rails as ornaments.Disjointed pieces that are bent, stretched and broken to create musical ideas and forms.(...).’ Against this background, Ellen Muhr’s voice combines soul and sexappeal to tell love -stories and their infinite ups and downs. ‘Each of our tracks is about love, and love has many faces: languishing love, abused love, self-love, lack of love, dependence on love ... but at the end love is here to be found’, Ellen Muhr writes.

Except for Karel Gott, Austrians find it somewhat difficult to name Czech musicians or bands. Ohm Square could change that sorry state of affairs; at home, Ohm Squarehave already acquired a cult following. However, the sound of Ohm Square is anything but golden, voices are used mostly as (extremely effective) ornaments for meticulously arranged drum & bass tracks. The Czech band’s debut CD ‘Ohmophonica’ is a fascinating splash on the scene. They manage no t to lose sight of melody arcs, remain cool for dancing and keep the tracks interesting for home listening. This tightrope walk between drum & bass and trip hop succeeds on all counts: the album is an international class act that merits attention. With singer and DJ Nicolette (ex Massive Attack), the band’s first single was included in the DJ Kicks compilation and gave them a taste of international acclaim. Ohm Square are composed of Charlie One (vocals), Dusan Only One, Jan 2 and Jan 5 (programming, keyboards, guitar), Koogi (scratches), Mi(k)I (percussion, clarinet) and Pete Williams (vocals).

Since 2000, Gergely Fekete (lead vocals), Lászlo Paduts (guitar, vocals), Lászlo Auer (bass) and Roland Zistler (drums) have been fusing rock, retro, hip hop and funk into their very own, energetic brand of rock under the name Sunscreen. All musicians were born in or around Sopron. Their live acts, too, are high-power affairs but never pessimistic or aggressive. So far, the foursome have performed in Austria,Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Croatia and of course taken a prime spot at Hungarian summer festivals. In 2004, Sunscreen won second place in the band competition ‘Contest- x’ in Bavaria. As yet, the band has only recorded demos but is already planning a CD and looking for a suitable label. Sunscreen have a strong western slant and therefore use English lyrics.

The dimensions of Vienna’s music scene are moderate, and people tend to know each other. So Mex Wolfsteiner (drums), Richie Klammer (trumpet) and Franz Reisecker (guitar) found they all were in love with groove while playing in different bands. Together with multi -instrumentalist Martin Zrost, the trio became a quartet – the perfect number. Their first record was launched in 2002 by Hoanzl. Simply called ‘Trio Exklusiv’, this production laid the ground for the musical output of one of the most exciting livecombos working in Austria. Last year, Universal reissued ‘Trio Exklusiv’ as ‘Value Pack’, a double CD with sophisticated remix tracks and the ‘Gringo’ video. The newalbum ‘International Standards’ was produced and sound-polished by Patrick Pulsinger (Cheap Rec.). Modelled on 1950s and 1960s orchestras, Trio Exklusiv have dug deep into their abundant stylistic repertory and created superbly jazzy music – for the dance-floor and the disco in your very own living- room.
